Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Sola, Vanuatu. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Monday 2 November 2020 at 8.04 pm local time, at a considerable intermediate depth of 194 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt, based on preliminary calculations, include Sola (pop. 1,200) located 86 km from the epicenter and likely affected by very weak shaking.
