The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in El Salvador near the town of Acajutla only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Wednesday 4 November 2020 at 7.13 am local time at a shallow depth of 20 km. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Acajutla (pop. 22,800) located 41 km from the epicenter, San Antonio del Monte (pop. 9,100) 57 km away, Sonsonate (pop. 59,500) 58 km away, Sonzacate (pop. 15,400) 60 km away, Izalco (pop. 19,200) 63 km away, Santa Ana (pop. 176,700) 93 km away, San Salvador (pop. 526,000) 96 km away, and Mejicanos (pop. 160,300) 97 km away.
