The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Mexico near the village of Paso de la Garrocha only 17 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Friday 6 November 2020 at 11.30 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Paso de la Garrocha (pop. 200) located 28 km from the epicenter, Playa Banco de Oro (pop. 100) 28 km away, Corralero (pop. 1,700) 33 km away, Santa María Chico Ometepec (pop. 1,500) 35 km away, Pocitos (pop. 400) 35 km away, and Pinotepa Nacional (pop. 25,700) 47 km away.
