4.3 quake 31 km SSW of Corredor, Costa Rica, 8 Nov 10.56 pm (GMT -6)
The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) reported a magnitude 4.3 quake in Costa Rica near the village of La Victoria only 6 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Sunday 8 November 2020 at 10.56 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in La Victoria (pop. 400) located 10 km from the epicenter, El Coco (pop. 200) 11 km away, Blanco Arriba (pop. 400) 12 km away, Finca Sigua (pop. 300) 14 km away, Finca Bongo (pop. 200) 15 km away, La Concepción (pop. 17,700) 49 km away, Pedregal (pop. 17,400) 67 km away, and David (pop. 82,000) 68 km away.
This story will be updated soon by VolcanoDiscovery. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
