Just 17 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Puerto Madero, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Wednesday 11 November 2020 at 8.34 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 63 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Puerto Madero (pop. 9,700) located 24 km from the epicenter, Playa Linda (pop. 500) 24 km away, El Encanto (pop. 1,700) 26 km away, Barra de Cahuacan (Las Gaviotas) (pop. 200) 26 km away, San Simón (pop. 200) 27 km away, and Tapachula (pop. 198,000) 51 km away.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Huixtla (pop. 29,300) located 65 km from the epicenter, and Motozintla (pop. 19,100) 96 km away.
