An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred early morning on Thursday 12 November 2020 at 5.58 am local time near the village of La Reforma, Mexico, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 16 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in La Reforma (pop. 200) located 42 km from the epicenter, Colonia Cuauhtémoc (pop. 700) 42 km away, Playa Brasil (pop. 200) 42 km away, Salina Cruz (pop. 73,600) 43 km away, El Pacífico (pop. 400) 43 km away, Guelaguechi (pop. 500) 43 km away, Santo Domingo Tehuantepec (pop. 37,400) 60 km away, and Juchitán de Zaragoza (pop. 67,600) 69 km away.
