An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 15 minutes ago 59 miles southeast of McCall, Idaho, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10.9 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday 13 November 2020 at 3.54 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Garden Valley (pop. 400) located 43 miles from the epicenter, Crouch (pop. 200) 43 miles away, Cascade (pop. 900) 44 miles away, Challis (pop. 1000) 48 miles away, and Idaho City (pop. 500) 49 miles away.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include McCall (pop. 3,100) located 59 miles from the epicenter, Sun Valley (pop. 1,400) 62 miles away, and Ketchum (pop. 2,700) 62 miles away.
