The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 3.8 quake in the Nevada near the town of Beatty 39 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday 13 November 2020 at 9.17 am local time at a shallow depth of 7.7 miles. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.0 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Beatty (pop. 1000) located 26 miles from the epicenter.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Goldfield (pop. 300) located 45 miles from the epicenter.
