The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in Colombia near the village of Sipí 37 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday 16 November 2020 at 8.59 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 62.9 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Sipí (pop. 300) located 19 km from the epicenter, El Cairo (pop. 3,300) 30 km away, Nóvita (pop. 1,900) 30 km away, San José del Palmar (pop. 2,400) 35 km away, Versalles (pop. 3,500) 35 km away, Pereira (pop. 440,100) 88 km away, Armenia (pop. 315,300) 91 km away, and Manizales (pop. 357,800) 115 km away.
