Just 20 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the village of Cachimbo, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Tuesday 17 November 2020 at 5.57 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 18 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Cachimbo (pop. 100) located 92 km from the epicenter, San Francisco del Mar Viejo (pop. 4,000) 94 km away, Pesquería Rancho Salinas (pop. 600) 97 km away, Santa María del Mar (pop. 800) 97 km away, La Gloria (pop. 1,800) 98 km away, Cerro Grande (pop. 500) 98 km away, Reforma Agraria Integral (pop. 300) 99 km away, and Santa Rita (Santa Rita del Mar) (pop. 500) 99 km away.
