Just 4 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Kopanáki, Greece. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday 19 November 2020 at 1.11 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 2 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Moderate shaking probably occurred in Kopanáki (pop. 1,500) located 3 km from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kyparissía (pop. 5,000) located 12 km from the epicenter, Kallirröḯ (pop. 300) 13 km away, Políkhni (pop. 200) 14 km away, Linístaina (pop. 100) 17 km away, Kalamata (pop. 54,100) 41 km away, Pýrgos (pop. 22,400) 52 km away, and Trípoli (pop. 26,600) 57 km away.
