Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Indonesia near the city of Padang only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday 20 November 2020 at 1.10 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Padang (pop. 840,400) located 82 km from the epicenter, Pariaman (pop. 92,200) 95 km away, and Solok (pop. 48,400) 119 km away.
