The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Mexico near the village of Boca Vieja (Barra Boca Vieja) only 20 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Friday 20 November 2020 at 12.09 am local time at a shallow depth of 19 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Boca Vieja (Barra Boca Vieja) (pop. 200) located 3 km from the epicenter, Derramadero (pop. 200) 5 km away, Barra de Cuatunalco (pop. 200) 6 km away, San Agustín (pop. 300) 6 km away, and Las Palmas (pop. 200) 8 km away.
