The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in Mexico near the town of Santo Domingo Zanatepec only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday 20 November 2020 at 2.43 am local time at an intermediate depth of 81 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Santo Domingo Zanatepec (pop. 7,000) located 4 km from the epicenter, General Pascual Fentes (pop. 1,100) 7 km away, Yerba Santa (pop. 700) 11 km away, Revolución 20 de Noviembre (pop. 300) 13 km away, Las Anonas (pop. 100) 14 km away, Cintalapa de Figueroa (pop. 42,500) 70 km away, Juchitán de Zaragoza (pop. 67,600) 74 km away, and Salina Cruz (pop. 73,600) 97 km away.
