An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred only 14 minutes ago 32 miles northwest of Tonopah, Nevada, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 7.4 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday 20 November 2020 at 2.10 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mina (pop. 200) located 22 miles from the epicenter.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Silver Peak (pop. 100) located 31 miles from the epicenter, Tonopah (pop. 2,500) 32 miles away, Dyer (pop. 300) 39 miles away, Goldfield (pop. 300) 45 miles away, and Benton (pop. 300) 45 miles away.
