4.3 quake 21 Nov 6:46 am (GMT +4:30)
4.3 quake 21 Nov 6:46 am (GMT +4:30)
A intermediate to deep magnitude 4.3 earthquake was reported early morning near the town of Jurm, Afghanistan.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit on Saturday 21 November 2020 at 6.16 am local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 205.6 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jurm (pop. 12,100) located 44 km from the epicenter, Farkhār (pop. 10,500) 63 km away, Fayzabad (pop. 44,400) 64 km away, Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100) 88 km away, Rustāq (pop. 25,600) 92 km away, and Taloqan (pop. 64,300) 94 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
