An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 13 minutes ago 123 km southeast of General Santos, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the evening on Saturday 21 November 2020 at 9.11 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Sarangani (pop. 7,500) located 38 km from the epicenter, Bukid (pop. 2,200) 58 km away, Balangonan (pop. 2,300) 59 km away, Butulan (pop. 2,400) 62 km away, Nuing (pop. 2,600) 64 km away, Glan (pop. 24,300) 91 km away, Alabel (pop. 43,300) 118 km away, and General Santos (pop. 679,600) 123 km away.
