4.3 quake HINDU KUSH REGION, AFGHANISTAN, 21 Nov 8.04 pm (GMT +4:30)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred early evening on Saturday 21 November 2020 at 7.34 pm local time near the town of Jurm, Afghanistan, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 118 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jurm (pop. 12,100) located 64 km from the epicenter, Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100) 79 km away, Farkhār (pop. 10,500) 90 km away, Fayzabad (pop. 44,400) 94 km away, and Pārūn (pop. 1000) 97 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
