Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Ashkāsham, Afghanistan. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Thursday 26 November 2020 at 9.27 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 210 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100) located 27 km from the epicenter, Jurm (pop. 12,100) 50 km away, Fayzabad (pop. 44,400) 86 km away, and Khandūd (pop. 5,500) 103 km away.
