Just 9 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Boca Chica, Panama. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Thursday 26 November 2020 at 9.00 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Boca Chica (pop. 200) located 46 km from the epicenter, Paja Blanca (pop. 100) 49 km away, Limones (pop. 300) 50 km away, Baco (pop. 200) 50 km away, Los Pocitos (pop. 100) 50 km away, Pedregal (pop. 17,400) 53 km away, David (pop. 82,000) 60 km away, and La Concepción (pop. 17,700) 71 km away.
