The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in China near Aykol 42 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday 28 November 2020 at 3.51 am local time at a very shallow depth of 1 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Aykol (pop. 11,300) located 122 km from the epicenter.
