An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 25 minutes ago 108 km southwest of Sukabumi, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 11 km beneath the epicenter near Pelabuhanratu early morning on Sunday 29 November 2020 at 4.07 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Pelabuhanratu (pop. 43,000) located 85 km from the epicenter, Sukabumi (pop. 276,400) 108 km away, Cicurug (pop. 89,000) 115 km away, and Caringin (pop. 91,800) 124 km away.
