An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred only 5 minutes ago 10 miles northeast of Corning, California, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Corning early afternoon on Monday 30 November 2020 at 3.04 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Corning (pop. 7,500) located 10 miles from the epicenter, and Red Bluff (pop. 14,100) 15 miles away. In Orland (pop. 7,600, 20 miles away), Chico (pop. 90,300, 22 miles away), Paradise (pop. 26,500, 28 miles away), Anderson (pop. 10,200, 33 miles away), Willows (pop. 6,100, 35 miles away), and Redding (pop. 91,600, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
