An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 10 minutes ago 53 km south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 25 km beneath the epicenter near Bengkulu, Indonesia, early morning on Saturday 5 December 2020 at 4.52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bengkulu (pop. 309,700) located 53 km from the epicenter, and Curup (pop. 46,200) 94 km away.
