Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Indonesia near Dompu, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Sunday 6 December 2020 at 5.20 pm local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 166 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Dompu (pop. 49,000, 27 km away), Bima (pop. 67,000, 51 km away), Pototano (pop. 5,000, 87 km away), and Sumbawa Besar (pop. 52,700, 94 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
