An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred late at night on Friday 18 December 2020 at 11:08 pm local time near Santa Tecla, Departamento de La Libertad, El Salvador, as reported by the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 26 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.
