Magnitude 5.1 earthquake strikes near Ibusuki, Japan

Just 13 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Ibusuki, Ibusuki Shi, Kagoshima, Japan. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday 25 December 2020 at 5:38 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 106.2 km below the surface.
The event was filed by NIED, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Miyanoura (pop. 6,500) located 45 km from the epicenter, Ibusuki (pop. 29,700) 47 km away, Nishinoomote (pop. 17,800) 48 km away, Makurazaki (pop. 25,000) 52 km away, Kaseda-shirakame (pop. 23,700) 68 km away, Kanoya (pop. 82,300) 70 km away, Tarumizu (pop. 19,100) 76 km away, and Kagoshima (pop. 555,400) 83 km away.
