Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Calama, Provincia de El Loa, Antofagasta, Chile. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday 25 December 2020 at 6:37 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 100 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Calama (pop. 143,100) located 48 km from the epicenter, and San Pedro de Atacama (pop. 2,000) 56 km away.
