Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Golfito, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Friday 25 December 2020 at 8:08 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 28 km below the surface.
The event was filed by RSN, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Golfito (pop. 6,800) located 13 km from the epicenter, and Corredor (pop. 7,100) 32 km away.
