Just 25 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Buenaventura, Departamento del Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Monday 28 December 2020 at 4:47 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 32 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Buenaventura (pop. 24,800) located 43 km from the epicenter, and Buenaventura (pop. 240,400) 55 km away.
