Just 25 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Champerico, Municipio de Champerico, Departamento de Retalhuleu, Guatemala. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Monday 28 December 2020 at 4:23 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 15 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Champerico (pop. 7,800) located 97 km from the epicenter.
