Magnitude 3.0 earthquake strikes near Kalifornsky, Kenai Peninsula County, Alaska, United States

3.0 quake 18 Jan 8:21 am (GMT -9)
3.0 quake 18 Jan 8:21 am (GMT -9)
A magnitude 3.0 earthquake near Kalifornsky, Kenai Peninsula County, Alaska, USA, was reported only 9 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 63 miles beneath the epicenter in the morning on Monday 18 January 2021 at 8:21 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Munina (pop. 880, 33 miles away), Cohoe (pop. 1,400, 39 miles away), Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900, 40 miles away), Kenai (pop. 7,700, 43 miles away), Anchor Point (pop. 1,900, 45 miles away), and Nikiski (pop. 4,500, 46 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
