Just 15 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Mawlaik, Mawlaik District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar (Burma). The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday 23 January 2021 at 3:14 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 114 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mawlaik (pop. 44,500) located 101 km from the epicenter. In Kakching (pop. 30,400, 106 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
