Possible foreshock of 5.9 quake near Santiago
10 minutes after receiving first reports of shaking in the Santiago area, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake did occur in an area about 50 km east of Santiago and at more than 100 km depth.
While the early reports cannot be reflecting that quake, they might refer to a (so far unlisted) foreshock that occurred approx. 10 min earlier in a similar area.
