Just 12 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Stockerau, approx 23 km northwest of Vienna in Austria. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Monday 25 January 2021 at 8:36 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by KRZO, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Unterzögersdorf (pop. 360) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Stockerau (pop. 16,300) 3 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Klosterneuburg (pop. 15,600) located 13 km from the epicenter, Hernals (pop. 57,500) 17 km away, Ottakring (pop. 104,600) 20 km away, Floridsdorf (pop. 162,800) 21 km away, Wien (pop. 1,691,500) 23 km away, Meidling (pop. 97,600) 26 km away, Donaustadt (pop. 187,000) 26 km away, and Favoriten (pop. 201,900) 28 km away.
