Just 17 minutes ago, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Trofaiach, Politischer Bezirk Leoben, Styria, Austria. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday 27 January 2021 at 1:43 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 8 km below the surface.
The event was filed by ZAMG, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Trofaiach (pop. 7,700) located 2 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Leoben (pop. 8,300) located 7 km from the epicenter. In Andritz (pop. 19,000, 45 km away), Lend (pop. 31,100, 47 km away), Eggenberg (pop. 20,500, 47 km away), Geidorf (pop. 24,800, 48 km away), Gries (pop. 29,400, 49 km away), Graz (pop. 222,300, 50 km away), and Jakomini (pop. 32,900, 51 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
