4.2 quake 21 Feb 6:44 am (GMT +8)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred early morning on Sunday 21 February 2021 at 6:44 am local time near Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 145 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Komodo (pop. 2,000, 34 km away), Labuan Bajo (pop. 188,700, 38 km away), Bima (pop. 67,000, 98 km away), and Ruteng (pop. 34,600, 101 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
