An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred 31 minutes ago 77 km south of Kalo Nero, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7.5 km beneath the epicenter near Kalo Nero, Crete, Greece, in the afternoon on Friday 26 February 2021 at 5:46 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (ENSN) at magnitude 4.2, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.0, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.3.
