The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near Valdez, Valdez-Cordova County, Alaska, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Wednesday 3 March 2021 at 6:05 am local time at a shallow depth of 18 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Valdez (pop. 3,900, 15 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
