4.2 quake 11 Mar 10:52 am (GMT +2)
The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Greece near Preveza, Préveza, Epirus, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Thursday 11 March 2021 at 10:52 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Alatro (pop. 17) located 1 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Lefkada (pop. 8,700) located 17 km from the epicenter, Palairos (pop. 2,600) 22 km away, Preveza (pop. 17,300) 32 km away, and Vonitsa (pop. 4,700) 33 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Argostoli (pop. 9,800) located 57 km from the epicenter, Arta (pop. 21,900) 60 km away, and Agrinio (pop. 46,900) 65 km away.
