The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Argentina near Tinogasta, Departamento de Tinogasta, Catamarca, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Tuesday 30 March 2021 at 6:34 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 130 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Tinogasta (pop. 14,500, 71 km away), Vinchina (pop. 2,800, 76 km away), and Fiambala (pop. 8,100, 80 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
