Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes near Isangel, Tafea Province, Vanuatu

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 24 minutes ago 25 km northeast of Isangel, Vanuatu, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 104.5 km beneath the epicenter near Isangel, Tafea Province, Vanuatu, early evening on Sunday 18 April 2021 at 6:48 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Isangel (pop. 1,400) located 25 km from the epicenter.
