An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred after midnight on Saturday 24 April 2021 at 12:01 am local time near Trujillo, Provincia de Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 54 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5.
