An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred after midnight on Sunday 25 April 2021 at 12:21 am local time near Glennallen, Valdez-Cordova, Alaska, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Glennallen (pop. 480) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Gulkana (pop. 120) 13 miles away, Gakona (pop. 220) 15 miles away, Tazlina (pop. 300) 17 miles away, Copperville (pop. 190) 18 miles away, and Copper Center (pop. 330) 24 miles away.
