Just 8 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Carson City, Carson City County, Nevada, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Monday 17 May 2021 at 12:24 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 1.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dollar Point (pop. 1,200) located 5 miles from the epicenter, Sunnyside-Tahoe City (pop. 1,600) 6 miles away, Kings Beach (pop. 3,800) 7 miles away, and Incline Village (pop. 8,800) 9 miles away.
