Just 6 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Esmirna, İzmir, Turkey. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Wednesday 19 May 2021 at 2:18 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Özdere (pop. 13,500) located 14 km from the epicenter, Menderes (pop. 22,000) 18 km away, Seferihisar (pop. 19,600) 19 km away, Torbalı (pop. 50,300) 30 km away, Karabağlar (pop. 458,000) 31 km away, Urla (pop. 45,200) 33 km away, Kusadasi (pop. 63,200) 35 km away, Esmirna (pop. 2,500,600) 35 km away, and Selçuk (pop. 29,100) 35 km away.
