The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in the United States near Olympia, Thurston County, Washington, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday 12 June 2021 at 4:12 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 25 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Skokomish (pop. 620) located 1 miles from the epicenter, Shelton (pop. 9,800) 9 miles away, Olympia (pop. 50,300) 24 miles away, Tumwater (pop. 19,200) 26 miles away, and Lacey (pop. 46,400) 26 miles away. In University Place (pop. 32,800, 30 miles away), Bremerton (pop. 39,500, 30 miles away), Tacoma (pop. 207,900, 35 miles away), Federal Way (pop. 95,200, 40 miles away), and Seattle (pop. 684,500, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
