The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.5 quake in the United States near Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California, only 6 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Saturday 12 June 2021 at 11:54 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1.6 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cobb (pop. 1,800) located 6 miles from the epicenter, and Cloverdale (pop. 8,800) 10 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Healdsburg (pop. 11,700) located 14 miles from the epicenter, Russian River (pop. 11,700) 14 miles away, Clearlake (pop. 15,200) 15 miles away, Windsor (pop. 27,500) 18 miles away, Santa Rosa (pop. 175,000) 26 miles away, and Rohnert Park (pop. 42,400) 33 miles away. In Petaluma (pop. 60,400, 41 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
