Significant magnitude 5.2 quake hits 76 km southeast of Romana, Dominican Republic early morning

5.2 quake 14 Jun 6:15 am (GMT -4)
5.2 quake 14 Jun 6:15 am (GMT -4)
An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 8 minutes ago 76 km southeast of Romana, Dominican Republic, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 32.3 km beneath the epicenter near Romana, La Romana, Provincia de La Romana, Dominican Republic, early morning on Monday 14 June 2021 at 6:15 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Boca de Yuma (pop. 2,000) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Romana (pop. 208,400) 76 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
