The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Haiti near Port-au-Prince, Arrondissement de Port-au-Prince, Département de l'Ouest, only 26 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday 15 July 2021 at 5:01 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Fond Parisien (pop. 18,300) located 6 km from the epicenter, and San Jose de Jimani (pop. 6,600) 9 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Thomazeau (pop. 52,000) located 22 km from the epicenter, Croix-des-Bouquets (pop. 229,100) 32 km away, Pétionville (pop. 283,100) 38 km away, Kenscoff (pop. 42,200) 38 km away, Delmas 73 (pop. 382,900) 39 km away, Port-au-Prince (pop. 1,234,700) 43 km away, and Carrefour (pop. 442,200) 49 km away.
